So now, we’re going to the beach 🙂
It isn’t summer anymore, well although here in Indonesia we only know summer and rainy season ha.. ha.., yet beach time is always a great time. right? right? oh yeah absolutely!
So i went to Belitong, Billiton in English, on mid January. It was a small island in east coast Sumatera. I stayed there with couple of friends for 3 days. That was long enough to enjoy the town.
We took 5.55 AM flight from Jakarta and it’s only take 50 minutes to get there. Arriving at H.A.S. Hanandjoeddin Airport, we went straight to Rumah Adat Belitong, located at Jl. Ahmad Yani, right next to the City’s Regent Office. This house is big and pretty much look like a mini museum. To get inside, we must walk upstair to meet this wide terrace, with long chair and a table. Perfect for hanging out ha ha ha… XD
Going through the main door, then we saw this big room, very big. It was the main room. It was just a room covered with carpet and some things to be observed, like drape covered bed for newlywed, the wedding party menus, the wedding gifts, and also the traditional wedding dress. I think this room was supposed to be a multi-functional room that could be used for any occasions.
Step out the back door, there was this kind of bridge, connecting the main room with the also-super-wide-dining room. Trust me, it was very vast. You can invite as many friends as you have. The kitchen just look pretty much as simple as main room. The wooden floor was partly covered with carpet. There are also some ornaments, which were the traditional tools for living.
This is the best part of this visit, dang.. dadaraaamm…. The Mie Belitung or Belitong’s Noodle. It’s a dish consist of yellow noodle with shrimp sauce, slices of cucumber and Gnetum gnemon (did i write it right?) bite-sized chips. My imagination turned upside down when i tasted it. It was a lil bit sweet when i expected it to be salty. Yet, it’s still tasted great. I ate 2 portions (FYI, they only served small portion hehe..).
Happy tummy, let’s get coffee. Here in Belitong, you must stop by Manggar, a small town called “Kota 1001 Warung Kopi” or The Town with 1001 Coffee Shops. Oh, it’s a must! There were a lot of coffee shops and we decided to visit this more than 10 years old coffee shop “Warung Kopi Millennium”. They not only served coffee but also gave the chance for the tea and snacks. But you know, how could you say you came to a coffee shop without tasting it. I decided to give this Es Kopi Susu (Ice Coffeemilk) a try. I thought it was a simple recipe, but i failed trying to configure the composition way back home. The coffeemilk was perfect. If only my stomach could handle more than a glass of coffee. I do want more.
Having enough coffee to keep us stay awake, we took the bus and having this long journey to the Andrea Hirata – Literature Museum. Andrea Hirata is an author famous for his Laskar Pelangi literature. Awful that we only got 15 minutes to enjoy the museum. Luckily, i captured somethings.
We hopped to Laskar Pelangi elementary school. It was only the replica. It’s built above the white sand ground and really pathetic. I mean the ceiling was broken, they only had some tables and soil ground. That they had some successful person, it’s amazing. The teachers must be great!
Then we went to the hotel. It’s BW Suite Hotel. They said it was the best hotel in Belitong. It’s used to be Aston Hotel. I was a little bit disappointed because of the cleanliness of the room. It was clean, but i still found two of bugs carcass under the table. And the bathroom had problem with the drainage. You need like 10 minutes to drain the water from the floor before continuing the shower. It’s bad! 🙁 This only happened to some rooms, unlucky for me, i got one of those rooms.
The day after, we went island hopping! yeah, finally! first we visited Pulau Kepayang (Kepayang Island) by the boat. looking down through the clear seawater, we could enjoy the scenery. Plus, there were many huge stones came up above the seawater level with some birds on them. Pretty pretty view. At Kepayang, we had lunch, fresh seafood were everywhere. From fishes to squids to prawns to crabs.. They cooked it good, spicy, i love it!
We didn’t stay long at Kepayang cause The Lengkuas Island was waiting! It’s the island with the famous lighthouse.
I was to tired to climb those 180 stairs of the lighthouse in Lengkuas Island ha..ha..ha.. i just enjoyed the view from the beach while waiting for the snorkeling time. The snorkeling time? It was the best!! The depth of the sea was perfect, so that the visitor couldn’t go to deep or step on the corals. They were so colorful so pretty. Couldn’t stop staring on them. Don’t forget the fishes, they were beautiful in so many kind! The water was soooo damn clear so we could enjoy the view 360 degrees! purrfect! But, unfortunately, i didn’t bring any underwater camera with me… T_T
Then it’s almost sunset that we need to go back.. so sad.. it’s like we could snorkel all day yet we only got a couple hours..
in conclusion, the best spot in Belitong was the snorkeling activities. Recommended to realize there were another magnificent part of the earth we never see before.
See you in another trip!
